Dan Baines is an internationally recognised prop artist and illusion designer, best known for his work that blurs the boundaries between art, theatre, folklore, and the uncanny. Based in the UK, Dan’s creations have appeared on stage, in film, and in museums worldwide, often inhabiting the eerie space between reality and imagination.
Over the past two decades, Dan has established himself as a specialist in storytelling-based magic, immersive performance design, and bespoke prop creation for film, television, and live events. His work has been commissioned by major broadcasters and studios including the BBC, Warner Bros., FX, Channel 4, and the History Channel. He has also served as an occult consultant for film and television productions, bringing authenticity and depth to narratives rooted in the supernatural, esoteric, and arcane.
Dan’s artwork and magical effects have been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and as part of Guillermo del Toro’s At Home With Monsters, which toured the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), and the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia). His infamous “mummified fairy” hoax brought him to global attention and cemented his reputation for crafting believable illusions with a darkly folkloric twist.
Whether designing haunted artefacts for séances, consulting on historical magical practices, or creating limited-edition theatrical props under his Lebanon Circle brand, Dan’s work continues to captivate performers, collectors, and curious minds alike.
